Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi acquitted in Delhi riots case, Karkardooma court pronounces verdict


Delhi Riots: In a case related to the February 2022 riots in Delhi, the Karkardooma Court has acquitted JNU alumni Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi. Both are out on bail in this case but they are in judicial custody in the UAPA case regarding the conspiracy of riots. The order was pronounced by ASJ Pulastya Pramachala.

According to the chargesheet, Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi have been accused of planning the riots in Shaheen Bagh along with former Aam Aadmi Party councilor Tahir Hussain. It was told that Khalid, Saifi and Tahir met on 8 January 2020 and conspired. The chargesheet wrote, “Tahir Hussain, Saifi and Umar Khalid are part of a larger group of people who were organizing riots and protests in Delhi.”
