Satcom services will go live in India: The day is not far when you will get internet without wires and towers. Satellite based internet service will start soon in India. For this, DOT i.e. Department of Telecommunication is giving approval for live demonstration to Jio and Oneweb. Both the companies will give a live demo of how satellite based internet service will work by the end of this month. Let us tell you, both the satcom companies have got GMPCS license and Jio and Oneweb have also applied to DOT to test the satcom service on a large scale. This testing period is of 90 days which can be extended if needed.
India’s space economy will reach $13 billion by 2025
According to ET’s report, an official associated with the department said that the government can give approval to Jio and Oneweb for testing on a large scale. At present the applications for test spectrum are being analyzed. Another official said that the government can give test spectrum to companies because there is immense potential in Satcom and India wants to play a top role in this segment. The official said that even though the market of satellite based internet service in India is still in its initial stage, its potential is huge, especially in rural and remote areas. According to the EY-ISpA report, India’s space economy can grow at a CAGR of 6% to $13 billion by 2025.
Amazon enters the race for satcom services
Jeff Bezos-led company, Amazon has also entered the race to provide satcom services in India. The company has sent a file related to this to DOT yesterday. Amazon will provide satellite based internet service in India under its ‘Project Kuiper’. The company is going to launch its satellites Kuiper Sat-1 and Kuiper Set-2 from Florida today. Besides, the company is also planning to launch about 3200 satellites in the next 6 years, which shows that Amazon is also entering the race with full preparation.
