Shubman Gill in T20 International: Shubman Gill has become India’s regular opener. For some time now, he has been seen holding the reins of opening along with captain Rohit Sharma. Gill is being given preference as an opener in almost all three formats. But for the Indian opener, the T20 International has not gone as expected so far.
Even though Gill has scored a century in the 12 T20 International matches played so far, yet Gill has not been able to do the same feat in the format that he has done in ODIs. Last Tuesday (December 12), in the second T20 match played against South Africa, the Indian opener returned to the pavilion without opening his account. Gill was selected over Ruturaj Gaikwad in the playing eleven of the match.
Gaikwad is in very good form. He had earlier scored a century in the T20 series played against Australia, but still he had to warm the bench in front of Gill in the second T20 against Africa.
This is how Gill’s T20 International career has gone so far
Shubman Gill, who made his debut in T20 International in January 2023, has played 12 matches in the format so far, batting in 12 innings, he has scored 304 runs at an average of 27.63 and a strike rate of 145.45. During this period, he has scored 1 century and 1 half-century from his bat. His high score has been 126* runs.
Apart from this, if we look at Gill’s T20 innings one by one, he does not look so strong. So far in the innings, Gill has scored 07, 05, 46, 07, 11, 126*, 03, 07, 06, 77, 09, 00 runs respectively. It is clearly visible that in 8 out of 12 innings, Gill could not even cross the double digit figure. However, this is still the initial phase for Gill. But he will have to focus on T20I career.
