Congress blames AAP for not holding World Cup match in Mohali

Bajwa, the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, said the AAP government and the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) should have expedited the construction of the new stadium, especially considering that the World Cup was round the corner. He alleged that the AAP government had “failed” to improve the law and order situation in the state, which was another reason for the match not happening.
In a statement here, Bajwa said, “Organised crimes have increased in the state ever since AAP assumed power in the state.” “You should tell whether the only international cricket stadium in the state has been kept out of the list of venues to host Cricket World Cup 2023 matches due to security reasons,” he asked.
Bajwa also accused the BCCI of discriminating against Punjab and giving undue priority to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both the opening and final matches of the World Cup are going to be held in Ahmedabad’s stadium.
Bajwa said, “The BCCI should have taken more care of the sentiments of the people of Punjab. Exclusion of Mohali Cricket Stadium is a clear case of bias towards the state.
Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Tuesday condemned the non-inclusion of Mohali in the list of host cities for the World Cup match.
He claimed that the selection of host cities was motivated by political reasons. He termed the non-inclusion of Mohali as the venue of the World Cup match as “open discrimination against Punjab”.
