Champions Trophy will not be of 50 overs, the format of this ICC tournament will change in 2025

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Champions Trophy has not been organized since 2017, but discussions about Champions Trophy have started in the last few weeks. The ICC Champions Trophy will be hosted by Pakistan in 2025. ICC has said that only the team which will be in the top-7 of World Cup 2023 (except Pakistan) will be able to qualify for the Champions Trophy. Now the question is arising whether the Champions Trophy will be held in 50 over format like every time or in 20 overs.

Broadcaster expressed concern over 50 over match

In fact, the decreasing interest of the spectators in the ODI format of this time’s ODI World Cup has troubled the ICC’s official broadcaster Star Sports. Cricket is very much liked in India, and this time the World Cup is also being held in India, but in the match in which India does not play, the number of spectators in that match is very less. All the ICC broadcasters are upset by this, and they have advocated organizing the Champions Trophy in 20 over format. However, no decision has come from the ICC regarding this, but according to reports, the broadcasters have requested the ICC that the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in 2025 should be organized in the 20 over format instead of the 50 over format.

Some key ICC officials are going to hold a meeting in Ahmedabad next week regarding the decreasing number of spectators in the ODI World Cup held in India. In that meeting, the reasons due to which people are showing less interest in 50 over matches will be discussed, and measures to improve it will also be discussed. In such a situation, it is expected that in the same meeting the ICC can also discuss the request by the broadcaster to change the format of the Champions Trophy.
