Ashwin’s 500th Test wicket, big records broken; Kumble also left far behind

The record of taking 500 Test wickets in the fewest Test matches is in the name of former Sri Lankan spinner Muralitharan. Muralitharan had taken 500 wickets in just 87 matches. Ashwin is now at number two in this list. Ashwin has taken his 500th wicket while playing his 98th Test. Former Indian captain Anil Kumble, who took 500 wickets in the 105th Test, is at third place in this list. Former Australian spinner Shane Warne took his 500th wicket in the 108th Test.

R Ashwin is also at second place in the list of players who have taken 500 Test wickets in the fewest number of balls. Former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath had taken 500 wickets while bowling 25528 balls. Ashwin took his 500th wicket in Test cricket by bowling 25714 balls. James Anderson took 500 Test wickets after bowling 28150 balls. Whereas Stuart Broad had taken 500 Test wickets by bowling 28430 balls.

Ashwin made his Test debut for India in 2011. After a long journey of 13 years, Ashwin has got his 500th Test wicket. However, in the last 13 years, Ashwin has been India’s biggest match-winner. Ashwin has taken 5 or more wickets in an innings 34 times. On 8 occasions Ashwin has managed to take more than 10 wickets in a Test. Apart from this, Ashwin has shown amazing performance with the bat and has scored more than 3300 test runs and has also scored 5 centuries.
