After the Congress crossed the majority mark in the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that he respects the people’s mandate. He has submitted his resignation to the Governor. Whereas in Gujarat, BJP’s CM face Bhupendra Patel will again take charge of the state. State BJP President Pramukh CR Patil said on Thursday (December 8) that Patel will again take oath as Chief Minister on December 12.
Why Bhupendra Patel is becoming CM again
The BJP was reduced to 99 seats in 2017 due to the Patidar reservation movement. The party won the least number of seats since 1995. The party had planned to woo the ‘Kedwa’ Patidar community by promoting Bhupendra Patel, who belongs to the ‘Kedwa’ sub-group of Patidars, and then by making him the chief ministerial face.
