Bhubaneswar, August 06 : The Department of Women and Child Development has come up with guidelines for declaring a village or urban area free from such marriages with an aim to make Odisha child marriage free by 2030. The department, in a letter to all district collectors and municipal commissioners, said on Thursday that a village or ward can be declared child marriage free only if no such marriage has been performed for at least two years.
There should be a Child Protection Committee at this place which meets every quarter and a mechanism should be put in place to track child marriages by recording and checking the age proof of all marriages in the area. The regular functioning of ADVIKA initiative and ensuring 60 percent attendance of adolescents has been made mandatory during Kishori Diwas to be held on Saturday.
The government has also laid down guidelines to be followed after declaring a village or urban area child marriage free. It has asked village level committees to meet regularly and take stock of all awareness activities.
