India-Canada tensions: Canada on Monday asked a top Indian diplomat to leave the country. This step was taken by Canada when it accused India of killing pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that Indian agents entered his country and killed a Khalistani terrorist. In retaliation, India has also ordered the Canadian diplomat to leave the country.

Actually, Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead outside a Gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia. He was murdered on the 18th of June this year. After the murder, pro-Khalistan groups in Canada started pointing fingers towards India. This is the reason why Trudeau said, ‘It is a violation of our sovereignty for any foreign government to be involved in the murder of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil.’ In such a situation, let us know who was Hardeep Singh Nijjar?

Who was Hardeep Singh Nijjar?

According to the Punjab Police dossier, Hardeep Singh Nijjar was a resident of Bharsingh Pura village of Jalandhar. He moved to Canada in 1996. Upon reaching Canada, Nijjar started his career as a plumber. However, he was not interested in this work because he was more interested in Khalistani activities. This was the reason why he joined the Sikh separatist group ‘Sikh for Justice’ (SJF). SJF is banned in India.

Nijjar was the second leader of SJF after Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. In the last few years, his name started coming into discussion increasingly. His wealth also increased due to his involvement in pro-Khalistan activities. Nijjar’s terrorist activities started with becoming a member of Babbar Khalsa International led by Jagtar Singh Tara. Later, he formed his own group as ‘Khalistan Tiger Force’ (KTF).

Nijjar worked to identify, train and fund Khalistani supporters in India. Because of this, more than 10 FIRs are registered against him. In 2014, a conspiracy was hatched to murder self-proclaimed spiritual leader Baba Bhaniyara. In 2015, he organized a training camp in Canada for Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal. Mandeep was sent to target Shiv Sena leaders in Punjab. But Manjeep was caught by the police in June 2016.

In November 2020, Nijjar joined hands with fellow gangster Arsh Dalla. Arsh was also living abroad. Together they got Dera Sacha Sauda follower Manohar Lal murdered. This murder was carried out in Bathinda in 2021.
