There will be talk on these issues, not faces… Before the meeting in Patna, know what is the agenda of the opposition?
Bihar opposition parties meeting: Top leaders of the country’s major opposition parties will brainstorm here on Friday (June 23) with the aim of ousting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power at the Center in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Along with this, the Prime Minister will make a strategy to form a strong opposition front against the government led by Narendra Modi. Sources gave this information on Thursday (June 22). He told that during the brainstorming, the focus will be on the strategy of common competition, bypassing the questions related to leadership.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, party leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar is expected to attend the first high-level meeting of opposition parties.
‘This is just the beginning..,’
The meeting is being hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. Sources said that this meeting can be seen as the beginning of opposition unity to take on the Narendra Modi-led government and a basic framework can be discussed to move forward in this direction.
However, for the time being, seat-sharing and leadership related questions will be ignored, he said. A senior leader of the opposition said on condition of anonymity, “This is just the beginning. Getting ideas is important. There is no possibility of discussion on election strategy, leadership question and seat sharing at this time.
Will talk about supporting you
He said that the issues raised by the opposition parties to corner the BJP would be the top agenda of the meeting and in this context the Manipur violence and alleged failure of the Center is likely to be discussed. Kejriwal’s push for a discussion on the Centre’s ordinance on deregulation of administrative services in the national capital will be keenly watched. It will be interesting to see how Congress reacts to this.
The Congress has not yet opened its cards whether it will support AAP or not if this ordinance of the central government is introduced in the Parliament. Kejriwal on Tuesday (June 20) expressed hope that the Congress would clarify its stand on the Centre’s ordinance in its meeting to be held on June 23.
Who is the face of the Prime Minister’s post?
This meeting of opposition parties is taking place at a time when news of their mutual estrangement has also come to the fore. Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is sitting on a dharna outside the block office in Murshidabad district, demanding action against workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress who allegedly attacked Congress workers in West Bengal.
The BJP is targeting the opposition parties over differences and is repeatedly raising the question of leadership as to who will be the prime ministerial face of the opposition. Bihar Congress chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh hit back at BJP’s criticism, saying the question of the prime ministerial candidate of the opposition alliance is not important as the leadership question can be resolved together after defeating the BJP in the 2024 general elections. .
