One accused sentenced to three months imprisonment in Mumbai accident case
A Mumbai court sentenced a BEST bus driver to three months imprisonment for injuring a cyclist in the Peddar Road area in January 2021. While delivering the verdict, the court said that negligent driving of a public transport vehicle poses a serious threat to the passengers as well as other road users.

The court rejected the bus driver’s plea for leniency in punishment, saying it would send a wrong message to the society. He had appealed for leniency in the punishment on the grounds that this was the first crime in his 28-year career. The bus driver was convicted by Girgaum court’s Metropolitan Magistrate Nadeem Patel on October 21 under Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash driving on a public road) and 337 (causing any act likely to endanger human life or safety of any person).
