Stones pelted again on Vande Bharat Express, stone pelters targeted in Karnataka, glass shattered

Stone pelting on Vande Bharat: Vande Bharat train stone pelting incidents are not stopping. On Saturday, July 1, the Dharwad-Bengaluru Express was targeted, with minor damage to window panes of the train. The stone-pelting incident took place near Devangiri railway station. This train was recently flagged off by PM Modi. Railways has started the investigation by registering a case.

On Saturday, between 3.30 and 4 o’clock, as soon as the train left Devangiri station and reached some distance, at the same time stones were pelted on the train. An official of the South Western Railway said that no one was harmed in the stone-pelting and there was no impact on the train service. The train reached the destination at its scheduled time at 7.25.

Deccan Herald has quoted a railway official as saying that the outer part of the window of the chaircar compartment (C4 coach) of the train has suffered minor damage. The inner part of the window is completely safe. He also told that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has started the investigation.

Railway officials will assess the damage and repair cost. The primary maintenance of the train takes place at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station. Taking serious note of the incident, the RPF has registered a case under section 153 (voluntarily destroying railway property) of the Railway Act. Under this, there is a provision of punishment of up to five years.

On June 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the semi-high-speed Vande Bharat train between Bangalore and Dharwad. Vande Bharat Express has been targeted by stone pelters for the third time in Karnataka. On February 25 this year, stones were also thrown at the Chennai-Mysuru Vande Bharat Express, in which six windows in two chaircar coaches of the train were damaged.
