Encounter in Anantnag: A Colonel, Major and DSP were martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. Leaders of political parties have expressed grief over the martyrdom of officers. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that India stands united against terrorism.

VK Singh said shocking
Union Minister and former Army Chief General VK Singh wrote on social media platform Paying tribute to Singh’s martyrdom, I pray to God to provide strength to his family in this difficult time.”

Expressing grief, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi wrote, “Saddened to know about the martyrdom of two army officers and a police officer in anti-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir. Azad told terrible news
Democratic Progressive Azad Party President Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed grief over the incident and prayed for the martyrs. He wrote on Twitter, “Today we have lost an Army Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak and DSP Humayun Bhat in an encounter while on duty in Kokernag. It is very difficult to accept this terrible news. My heart goes out to their families. I pray for the souls of those martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our better and safer tomorrow!”

Two military and one police officer were martyred
PTI quoted officials as saying that three officers, including an army colonel, were martyred in the encounter in Kokarnag, Anantnag. Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish, Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat were seriously injured in the firing and later died. He said that Bhat died due to excessive bleeding.
