PM Modi will be welcomed in Jakarta by wearing traditional dance and shawl, will participate in ASEAN conference

ASEAN-India Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Indonesia on Thursday (September 7) morning to attend the ASEAN summit. He will leave for Delhi in the evening after attending the ASEAN and East Asia Summits. On the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, PM Modi has gone to Jakarta to attend the 10-nation organization conference. Prime Minister Modi was welcomed in the traditional way of Indonesia as soon as he got down from the flight.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi posted on X (Twitter) and said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Jakarta, Indonesia. Today he will attend the 20th ASEAN Conference and the 18th East Asia Conference. Arindam Bagchi has also shared a video, in which high officials were present to welcome PM Modi after getting off the flight. Welcomed PM Modi by wearing a shawl. During this, some artists there also presented a traditional dance to welcome Prime Minister Modi. During the conference, Prime Minister Modi will discuss the future of India’s relations with strategically important countries.

What did PM Modi say before leaving for Indonesia?
Before leaving for Jakarta, Prime Minister Modi said he looked forward to attending the summit and termed engagement with ASEAN as an important pillar of India’s Act East policy. He said that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed last year has infused new energy into the relations between the two sides. Indonesia is hosting the summit as the current chair of ASEAN. ASEAN is considered one of the most influential groupings in the region and has dialogue partners including India, the US, China, Japan and Australia.

PM Modi said in a post on X, ‘Left to Jakarta to attend ASEAN related meetings. This includes the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, which focuses on a partnership that we cherish. I will also participate in the 18th East Asia Summit, which focuses on important developmental areas such as healthcare, environment and digital innovations.

India’s partnership with ASEAN countries will be discussed
Prime Minister Modi said that he is going to Jakarta at the invitation of President Joko Widodo to attend ASEAN-related meetings. Prime Minister Modi said, ‘I look forward to discussing with the ASEAN leaders the future contours of our partnership, which has now entered its fourth decade.’ The Prime Minister said that after this he would attend the 18th East Asia Summit (EAS). He said the forum provides a useful opportunity to deliberate on issues of importance to the region, including food and energy security, environment, health and digital transformation.

“I look forward to exchanging views with other EAS leaders on practical cooperation measures to collectively address these global challenges,” he said. Recalling his visit to Indonesia for the G-20 summit in Bali last year, PM Modi expressed confidence that the visit would further deepen India’s ties with the ASEAN region.
