Meeting on Uniform Civil Code: An important meeting of the parliamentary committee of the Ministry of Law took place on Monday (July 3) amidst the debate going on across the country regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). MPs of various political parties also participated in it.

This meeting was chaired by BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi. Representatives of the Law Commission, Government of India were called in this. In the meeting, what is UCC and how important it was discussed. The members of the committee were asked questions on this.

In this meeting, Chairman of Standing Committee and BJP MP Sushil Modi, BSP MP from UP’s Bijnor Lok Sabha seat Maluk Nagar, Sanjay Raut, Vivek Tankha, Ramesh Pokhriyal (Nishank), Mahesh Jethmalani and other members and Member Secretary of Law Commission and Ministry of Law Officers of the are involved in this meeting.

What happened in the meeting?

During this meeting, the members of the committee raised questions on the intention of the government. He said that at present the committee is not giving any decision or order on this, now efforts are being made to find out whether something is going on by discussing it. It has to be kept in mind that this is not just a family law but a matter related to every religion, caste community of the society.

Referring to the people of the Sikh community, the committee said that the Anand Marriage Act will also be affected for marriage there. He said that so far 19 lakh suggestions have come on this. It has been suggested that it should not affect the tribals (especially in the North-Eastern states).
