Kerala blasts: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has hit back at Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar over his statement on the blast at the Kochi Convention Centre. Rajiv Chandrashekhar had said that Hamas terrorists are carrying out blasts in Kerala and the CM is sitting here in Delhi protesting against the Israel-Hamas war. On this, Kerala CM has retorted and said, ‘Those who are poisonous will continue to spew poison.’
In fact, an explosion occurred during a prayer meeting going on in a convention center on Sunday (29 October) in Kochi city of Kerala. In this blast, 3 people including a 12 year old girl died, while many people were injured. There were several explosions one after the other in the convention center. At the same time, after the blast, a person claiming to be a member of the ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ sect of Christians surrendered before the Thrissur District Police a few hours later.
What did Rajeev Chandrashekhar say?
In fact, shortly after the blast, Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar criticized the Kerala CM for doing appeasement politics on social media platform X. Pinarayi Vijayan was protesting against the Israel-Hamas war in Delhi. Citing this, Chandrashekhar wrote, ‘In Delhi, people are protesting against Israel, whereas in Kerala, innocent Christians are being attacked and bombed because terrorists are being asked to wage jihad through Hamas.’
What did Kerala CM say?
Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, ‘Those who are poisonous will continue to spew venom.’ However, while saying this, he did not directly take the name of Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar. He further said, ‘A Union Minister has said that I am doing appeasement politics and protesting against Israel.’ Vijayan has earlier also demanded an end to the Israel-Hamas war and has appealed for peace.
Raising questions on Chandrashekhar’s statements, Kerala CM said on what basis has he said these things. He said, ‘He is a minister and he should at least show respect towards the investigating agencies. Investigation is still going on in such a serious incident. It is still the initial stage and he is making such statements to target some people. It is based on their communal agenda, but Kerala has no such agenda. Kerala has always stood against communalism.
