According to BBC report, when Karpoori Thakur was the Chief Minister of Bihar, his brother-in-law came to him for a job. He asked Karpoori Thakur to get recommendation for the job. Then Karpuri Thakur became serious and started thinking about something and then took out a fifty rupee note from his pocket and gave it to his brother-in-law. Also said, ‘Go, buy a razor etc. and start your ancestral work.’
When Karpoori Thakur himself joined the protest while being CM
On the birth anniversary of Karpoori Thakur, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey has narrated an anecdote. He told that while being the Chief Minister, Karpoori Thakur himself had joined the protests. Ashwini Choubey told that when Karpoori Thakur was the Chief Minister in 1977-78, there was violence and firing in Nalanda, in which many people were killed. Then the angry crowd demonstrated against the government and demanded an investigation, in which Karpoori Thakur also joined thousands of people. He came from Delhi and immediately joined the people in the demonstration as soon as he landed in Patna by plane. He told that there was a demand from the government for investigation regarding the firing, so where is such a public leader, who is the Chief Minister himself, join the protest.

Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and a powerful leader, has also described the simplicity of Karpoori Thakur in his memoirs. In this, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna has written that the financial condition of Karpoori Thakur was not very good. Seeing his financial crunch, former Haryana Chief Minister Devi Lal had told one of his friends in Patna that if Karpoori ji ever asks for Rs 5-10 thousand, he should give it. He said that this friend would be in debt to him. Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna further told that but when Devi Lal asked his friend several times whether Karpoori ji asked for anything, the friend said – No, sir, he does not ask for anything.
