‘If Maharashtra Speaker does not set a deadline for settlement, then…’, SC makes important comment

Maharashtra MLA Disqualification Petitions: The Supreme Court once again expressed dissatisfaction over the delay on the part of Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar in hearing the disqualification of MLAs supporting CM Eknath Shinde in Maharashtra.

Last week, the court had asked the Solicitor General to talk to the Speaker and fix the deadline. Today (Tuesday, October 17) the Solicitor General sought time for this. The court gave him the last chance and asked for hearing on October 30. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud once again said that if the Speaker does not fix the time limit for disposal of the case, then the court will fix it.
