Ramnath Kovind on one nation, one election: Former President of the country Ramnath Kovind has supported holding one country, one election. He said, holding elections simultaneously across the country will bring many conveniences. This is a step taken in the national interest, I urge all political parties to discuss this issue and reach a consensus.
Speaking to media persons in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli district, Kovind further said, ‘If there is an election in a country, it will benefit the party which is in power at the Centre, be it BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), Congress. , or any other political party. This will benefit the public the most and the revenue generated by saving money from simultaneous elections can be used in the development of the country.
Why were elections held simultaneously in the country?
The former President said that all the parliamentary panels formed regarding simultaneous elections, many committees including NITI Aayog and Election Commission of India have submitted their reports in support of holding simultaneous elections. In independent India, elections were held simultaneously throughout the country from the first elections in 1952 until 1967, but since the Lok Sabha and state assemblies could be dissolved before the end of their terms, state and national elections began to be held at different times. .
The government had constituted a committee
Modi government had formed a committee to conduct one election in one country. Kovind said, the government has appointed me as the chairman of this committee. Kovind said, the members of the committee, along with the public, will give suggestions to the government regarding re-implementing this tradition. The Kovind-led committee had written a letter to all the political parties in the country, seeking three months’ time to present their views on holding simultaneous assembly and national elections across the country.
