CBI action in defense espionage case, Canadian businessman Rahul Gangal arrested
Defense Espionage Case: The CBI on Tuesday (August 22) arrested Canadian businessman Rahul Gangal in the Defense Espionage Case. The officers provided this information.
In this case, a journalist and a former naval commander were arrested in May. News agency PTI quoted officials as saying that businessman Rahul Gangal, who became a permanent resident in Canada in 2019, was arrested on reaching Delhi on Monday (August 21).
What did the officials say?
Officials said that a special court has sent Gangal to CBI custody for four days. Earlier, the probe agency had arrested independent journalist Vivek Raghuvanshi and former Navy Commander Ashish Pathak on charges of collecting sensitive information on defense matters and passing them on to foreign intelligence agencies.
In a charge sheet filed in a special court in Delhi last month, the CBI named Raghuvanshi and Pathak as accused in the alleged violation of the Indian Official Secrets Act and related offences. Both were arrested in the whole case on 16 May.
