Bharat Ratna Award: 10 in 10 years, PM Modi distributed three times more Bharat Ratna than Manmohan Singh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced to honor three people with Bharat Ratna on Friday (February 9, 2024). These include former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh and father of Green Revolution S. The name of M Swaminathan is included. Before him, on February 3, it was announced that former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani would also be honored with this honour. On January 24, the name of Karpoori Thakur, who was the Chief Minister of Bihar twice, was announced for the Bharat Ratna award on his 100th birth anniversary. From 2014 till now, this highest honor of the country is being given to 10 people in the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the same time, from 2004 to 2014, when there was UPA government and Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister, three people were awarded Bharat Ratna. How many people got Bharat Ratna in PM Narendra Modi’s government?
In the year 2014, Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of the country. In these 10 years, 10 people have been honored with the highest civilian award in his government. In the year 2015, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and founder of Banaras Hindu University, Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya were given Bharat Ratna. Then in 2019, veteran Congress leader and former President Pranab Mukherjee, social worker Nana Ji Deshmukh and Indian playback singer, lyricist, musician, poet and filmmaker Bhupen Hazarika from Assam were awarded the Bharat Ratna. After this, in 2024 i.e. the current year which is an election year, Lal Krishna Advani, Karpuri Thakur, Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh and S. Five people including M. Swaminathan are being honored with Bharat Ratna.

Who got Bharat Ratna in the government of former PM Manmohan Singh?
There was a UPA government from 2004 to 2014, in which Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister. Only three people were awarded Bharat Ratna in his government. In the year 2008, during the UPA government, classical music singer Pandit Bhimsen Joshi was awarded Bharat Ratna. In the year 2014, former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and famous chemist CN Rao were awarded the highest civilian award.

How many people did Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi give Bharat Ratna?
Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was the Prime Minister of the country for 17 years. During his tenure, 12 people were awarded Bharat Ratna. His own name was also among the 12 people who were given Bharat Ratna, hence it is said that he himself had recommended his name. Actually, the recommendation of names for Bharat Ratna is sent to the President by the Prime Minister. However, when the decision to award Bharat Ratna was taken, he was on a foreign tour. Six people were awarded Bharat Ratna in the government of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and 2 in the government of Rajiv Gandhi.
