97 crore voters registered for general elections, 2.63 crore new voters, know how many names are missing from the list

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: This time the list of registered voters has increased by 6 percent as compared to the last general elections. About 97 crore people will be eligible to vote in the Lok Sabha elections to be held this year. In this regard, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Friday (February 9) that 96.88 crore people have registered for voting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Commission said that this year more than two crore youth in the age group of 18 to 29 years have also been added to the voter list. At the same time, the sex ratio has increased from 940 in 2023 to 948 in 2024.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the Commission has laid special emphasis on revision and transparency of the voter list. During this, he mentioned about a press conference held in Pune, in which the participation of political parties at every stage along with all the work related to the voter list was explained.

‘Gender ratio increased in voter list’
She said that this time there has been an increase in the registration of women voters, which is an example of a concrete effort towards gender equality within the electoral framework. “The gender ratio in the electoral rolls has increased positively, reflecting the growing role of women in shaping the democratic structure of the country,” the commission said.

The Election Commission further said that more than 2.63 crore new voters have been included in the voter list, out of which about 1.41 crore are women voters. At the same time, the number of male voters is 1.22 crore.

More than 1 crore 65 lakh names removed from the list
According to the Election Commission, this year the names of 1 crore 65 lakh 76 thousand 654 people have been removed from the list. These include those people who have either died or have shifted to another place. Apart from this, names of duplicate voters have been removed. This includes 67 lakh 82 thousand 642 dead voters, 75 lakh 11 thousand 128 absent voters and 22,5,685 duplicate voters.

After the month-long Special Summary Revision 2024 and before the General Elections 2024, the Election Commission of India has published the voter list in all the states and union territories across the country. It also includes voter lists in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam, which were revised after delimitation of constituencies.
