Mumbai Measles Case: The number of children suffering from measles has increased to 323 in Mumbai, out of which 36 children have been admitted to the hospital on Wednesday (30 November). There are 4 thousand 272 suspected patients. Out of total 117 admitted children, 22 are on oxygen support, while 2 are in ICU and 2 are on ventilator.
The State Health Department gave this information on Tuesday (November 29). So far 14 people have lost their lives due to this viral infection affecting children more. According to the official statement, 10 people have died of measles till 28 November in Mumbai alone. Since the beginning of this year (January 2022) in Maharashtra, the number of measles cases has reached 717 on Tuesday (November 29). Mumbai is most affected by measles in the state.
What arrangements were made?
The civic body had told in its statement on Monday (November 28) that 1,34,833 children in the age group of nine months to five years in Mumbai would be vaccinated and additional doses would be given to them at 33 health centers from December 1. BMC has so far surveyed 53,66,144 houses and detected 4,062 cases of fever and body rashes.
What are the symptoms?
According to the World Health Organisation, the first symptom of measles is high fever. On getting infected, runny nose, watery eyes, red eyes and spots on the mouth and throat appear. Let us tell you that apart from Maharashtra, measles cases have been reported in many states including Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand and Kerala. Those children are more at risk who are not getting proper nutrition or have vitamin-A deficiency or the immune system has become weak due to HIV AIDS or other disease.
