MCD Elections 2022: Elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi with 250 wards will be held on December 4. According to the Election Commission, votes will be cast for the MCD elections on December 4 from 8 am to 5.30 pm. A total of 1,349 candidates have filed nominations for the election, out of which 709 are women and the rest are men. Aam Aadmi Party and BJP have fielded their candidates on all 250 seats, while Congress has fielded candidates on 247 seats.

Out of 250 wards of the corporation, 42 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes, 21 seats for Scheduled Caste women and 104 seats for women candidates. The election campaign for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi ended on Friday. In the election campaign for MCD, all the parties including BJP, AAP and Congress have given their full strength. At the same time, this is the first election after the merger of three corporations – East Delhi Municipal Corporation, North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation. The BJP has been ruling the MCD continuously since 2007 (15 years).

Adequate security arrangements have been made regarding the corporation elections. Delhi’s Special CP, Law and Order, Zone 2 SP Hooda said on Friday that 30,000 security personnel will be deployed at different polling stations in view of the elections. He said that along with Delhi Police, Home Guards and CRPF personnel will also be present in security. He further said, to ensure peaceful elections in the capital, night patrolling is being done.

13,665 polling stations

At the same time, the Election Commission has set up 13,665 polling stations for voting, out of which one center will be run entirely by women. Apart from this, the services of Delhi Metro will start from 4 am on the day of voting, which will be available at an interval of 30 minutes. Whereas, after 6 am the metro will be available at normal time.

Ahead of voting, the State Election Commission has deployed 493 micro observers at sensitive and hyper sensitive polling stations in Delhi. These micro observers will be stationed at these places throughout the day of polling and will keep a close watch on the proceedings of the booths.
