The winter session of Parliament is starting from Wednesday. Meanwhile, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi And many other senior party leaders are likely to stay out of the winter session of Parliament. This information has come to the fore by quoting sources. Along with Gandhi, these leaders are expected to continue their participation in the party’s ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. In this regard, an important meeting of the party is to be held at 4 pm on Saturday, in which a decision is likely to be taken on the leader of the opposition.

It has been told that the Congress is going to meet today to discuss the issues to be raised in the winter session of Parliament and the strategy to encircle the government. According to sources, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Chief Whip in the Lower House K.K. Suresh, the party’s chief whip in Rajya Sabha Jairam Ramesh and other veteran leaders will attend. This meeting will be held at the house of Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi.

17 meetings will be held in the winter session

The current Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge is now also the party’s national president and the Congress will have to decide whether he will be allowed to continue in the role as the Leader of the Opposition in view of the party’s one-man-one-post policy.

Announcing this, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi had said that the winter session of Parliament will run from December 7 to 29, in which there will be 17 sittings in 23 days. Legislative work and other items are expected to be discussed during the session between Amrit Kaal. The government is ready for a constructive debate.

Since the Covid numbers have come down significantly and most of the members and staff of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats have been fully vaccinated, the session is likely to be held without any major Covid related restrictions.

It is pertinent to mention that this will be the first Parliament session in which Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who is the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, will preside over the Upper House. In this session, the central government will prepare a list of bills to be passed during the upcoming session, while the opposition will seek discussion on urgent issues. The monsoon session began on 18 July and was adjourned on 8 August. This session had 16 sessions over a period of 22 days.
