Jharkhand police team reached Raipur to arrest the BJP candidate standing in the by-election

BJP Candidate POCSO Case: A team of Jharkhand Police is camping in Raipur since 28 November to arrest Brahmanand Netam, the BJP candidate for the upcoming Bhanupratappur assembly by-election in Chhattisgarh. Brahmanand Netam is an accused in the POCSO case registered in Jharkhand. This case is related to the gang rape of a girl. The girl was raped for the first time at the age of 9, after which she was allegedly trafficked and sexually assaulted at several places in at least four states – Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Odisha.

Former Singhbhum SSP Prabhat Kumar told The Indian Express, “Out of the 10 accused in the case, five have been arrested so far. A charge sheet has been filed against them. The trial began on May 20. The remaining five, including Brahmanand Netam, have been convicted.” Will be arrested soon.”

‘His role in the crime is under investigation’

Let us inform that the five accused, including BJP candidate Netam, whose arrest is pending, are all residents of Chhattisgarh. Although he was not named in the FIR lodged in 2019, his name was later added to the FIR based on the investigation by the Jharkhand Police. Police said Netam is an accused in the case and his role in the crime is still being probed.

The then SP had written a sensational letter

In 2019, the then East Singhbhum SP Subhash Chandra Jat wrote a supervisory note to the investigating officer, asking him to arrest all the accused. He wrote, “The investigating officer has been ordered to arrest the remaining accused after verifying their names and addresses…and confiscate their properties, if they are absconding.”

The then SP’s 2019 note states that the minor’s sister did not believe her and instead continued to beat her regularly. He narrated his ordeal to a neighbour, who employed him at a shop in East Singhbhum district.

‘shop owner raped’

In the note, the SP wrote: “She was also raped by the shop owner. Thereafter, the neighbor took her to Raipur with the help of the shop owner. There they kept her in a flat, where one of the accused promised her a job. Instead, she was raped by eight men.”

‘Daily rape with minor’

Court records say she was later brought back to Jharkhand, where another woman assured her of a job, but a policeman allegedly raped her. The SP said in the note, “The woman kept the minor at her house for 10 days, where two to four persons used to rape her daily… Later, she was taken to Rourkela (Odisha), where she was also raped.” The accused kept her in a hotel in East Singhbhum and were planning to take her to Kharagpur (West Bengal), when the hotel owner alerted the police.”

According to the police, the girl used to keep the mobile numbers of the accused in a diary. The note said, “He drew a line for every person (who raped her).” At the same time, on November 28, the Jharkhand police, who were camping in Chhattisgarh, issued a notice to Netam asking him to appear before them.

What is written in the notice?

Police sources say that when Netam did not appear or respond to the notice, he said he would cooperate after the elections were over on December 5. The notice read, “It is informed that a case has been registered against you for gangrape, rape, POCSO Act and Immoral Traffic Prevention Act… Therefore please cooperate with the investigation and report to Camp Kanker police station on November 29 at 10 am.” attend.”
