New Delhi, June 10. A group of public health experts, including doctors from AIIMS and members of the National Task Force on COVID-19, told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that unplanned vaccination could lead to mutant strains.

Health experts said large-scale, indiscriminate and incomplete vaccination could trigger a mutant strain of the coronavirus. Along with this, the expert requested that there is no need to vaccinate. Those who have recently defeated coronavirus infection. In their latest report, experts said that instead of vaccinating the population at large, including children, immunization of vulnerable and at-risk people should be the government’s goal at present.

Experts from the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA), the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) and the Indian Association of Epidemiologists (IAE) have advised the government. Experts said in their new report, “The current state of the epidemic in the country demands that we should be guided by logistics and epidemiological data to prioritize vaccination over all age groups at this stage.

“Introducing immunization on all fronts will drain more resources and make it too narrow to make an impact at the population level,” experts said in a report submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Highlighting that the evidence for vaccination of young adults and children is not yet sufficient and would not be cost-effective, he said that unplanned vaccination could lead to mutant strains.
