Gujarat elections: Congress complains about malfunctioning EVM machines and biased reporting

Gujarat Assembly Election 2022: Voting for the first phase is going on in Gujarat. According to the Election Commission, 34.48 percent people have exercised their franchise till 1 pm in Gujarat. Meanwhile, the opposition party Congress has lodged its complaint with the Election Commission. Congress in-charge of Gujarat Alok Sharma said that at places like Jamnagar, Rajkot the machines broke down and it took more than an hour for the officials to replace them.

Congress made this allegation

In his complaint to the Election Commission, Alok Sharma said that around 50 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) got damaged and were not replaced in time. Apart from this, he has also accused some TV channels of allegedly influencing voters in favor of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He accused several TV channels reporting on the polls of giving biased coverage to BJP leaders as if campaigning for the BJP. This election is a clear violation of the model code of conduct. He asked the ECI to stop it immediately, so that free and fair elections could be held. There was no immediate response from the ECI or the BJP to the Congress’s allegations.
