CWG 2022 Table Tennis: Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Ganthasekaran reach semi-finals of men’s singles

Indian Table Tennis Players at CWG 2022: Indian dominance in table tennis continues in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. After the matches held today, in men’s singles, Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gananasekaran (Sathiyan G) have made it to the semi-finals. At the same time, in the women’s doubles, the pair of Manika and Diya (Manika Batra and Diya Chitale) as well as the pair of Reet and Shreeja (Shreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison) have also entered the quarter-finals.

Sharath Kamal: Sharath Kamal defeated Yong Izak of Singapore 4-0 in the men’s singles quarterfinal match. He defeated Izak 11-6, 11-7, 11-4 and 11-7 to reach the semi-finals.

Sathiyan Gananasekaran: Sathiyan Gananasekaran has also entered the semi-finals of men’s singles. He defeated England’s Sam Walker 4-2 in the quarterfinal match. Sathiyan won the first three sets 11-5, 11-7, 11-5. After this they had to be defeated by 8-11, 10-12. He won the sixth set 11-9 to make it to the semi-finals.

Manika Batra and Diya Chitale: In women’s doubles, the pair of Manika and Diya registered an easy victory in the round of 16 match. The Manika and Diya defeated Mauritius’s Oumhani Hosseinli and Nandeshwari Zalim by 11-5, 11-5, 11-3 i.e. 3-0 to reach the quarter-finals.

Sreeja Akula and Reet Tennyson: In women’s doubles, another Indian pair has also reached the quarter-finals. The pair of Sreeja and Reet defeated Chloe Anna and Lara Whitton of Wales 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 in a round of 16 match to reach the quarter-finals.
