Rampur, 15 January: Congress has suffered a major setback in Chamraua assembly seat of Rampur. In fact, on January 13, the Congress Party had released a list of 125 candidates. In this list, Yusuf Ali was made its candidate by the Congress party from Chamraua assembly seat of Rampur district. But Yusuf Ali gave a big blow to his party on Friday, 14 January itself. Yusuf left the Congress and rode on Akhilesh Yadav’s cycle.

Yusuf Ali took membership of the SP in the capital Lucknow in the presence of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and former minister Swami Prasad Maurya. His wife Shaheen is the block chief of Swar. His joining the SP has dealt a major blow to the Congress in the district. The Congress had yesterday declared candidates for four of the five seats in the district. There is talk that many more Congress leaders may join BJP or SP. Similarly, many BJP leaders are expected to join the SP. This leader is close to Swami Prasad Maurya.

Know the political history of Yusuf
In 2012, Yusuf Ali contested the assembly elections from Chamraua seat on a BSP ticket and was elected MLA. The election for this seat was held for the first time in 2012 itself. In the 2017 elections also, he contested from Chamraua and remained in the contest. Later he left the BSP and joined the Congress. Congress made him state general secretary. On Thursday itself, he was declared the candidate from Chamraua and joined the SP on Friday.
