IIT Kharagpur Ragging Case: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday reprimanded the director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in a ragging case. Actually, the body of 23-year-old student Faizan Ahmed was found in IIT Kharagpur in the month of October. Earlier, a complaint of ragging was registered in the institute. But, no action was taken even after receiving the complaint of ragging. After this, the High Court reprimanded the director.
Please inform that the body of the deceased student was found in a rotten condition in the hostel of the campus. Hearing is going on in the Calcutta High Court in the case of student’s death. The court had sought an action taken report on the complaint of ragging in IIT Kharagpur. At the same time, the court has expressed its displeasure as nothing is clear in the report. Now the director of the institute has been called for the next hearing to be held on 20 December.
What did the court say?
The court said that none of the above incidents have been mentioned by the director in the report. This report looks completely confusing. Issues are missing from this. Along with this, the court asked the counsel for IIT Kharagpur, did you tell what action has been taken in the report? Why is the director giving lectures here? We have asked your client to give the names of the students (ragging). The court asked you to name the students involved (in ragging). What have you done?’
On this question, the lawyer told the court that we have not been able to identify the students. The bench hearing this got agitated and said what is going on here? Your client is playing along with the court. The director will be present in the next hearing.
Please tell that the father of the deceased student had made a serious allegation. Along with the murder, he also accused the IIT management of negligence. After this the investigation of the case was handed over to CID. While hearing the petition filed in the High Court regarding this death, the judge had also called for a report from the District Superintendent of Police.
