BJP made Uniform Civil Code a big issue in elections, so did Congress say anything?

Bharat Jodo Yatra: Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Friday (December 2) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP of raising the issue of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) at the time of elections. He also said that Bharat Jodo Yatra of Congress is not an event but a movement.

Ramesh told reporters after the Bharat Jodo Yatra led by former Congress President Rahul Gandhi reached Sumra Khedi in Agar Malwa district. Said that BJP always raises the issue of Uniform Civil Code when elections are held. This time elections are being held in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

He said that I have also mentioned in Parliament that the Law Commission, headed by Justice BS Chauhan, in its 185-page report on August 31, 2018, It has been said on the issue that Uniform Civil Code is neither desirable nor necessary. BJP always raises it whenever elections are held.

Announced to form a committee for UCC 

Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh On Thursday (December 1), has announced the formation of a committee for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. Some other BJP-ruled states, including Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, have made similar announcements recently. On the question of BJP terming this padyatra as an event, Jairam Ramesh said, "Bharat Jodo Yatra is a movement and not an event." 

The former Union Minister said that BJP is expert in managing events. Veteran BJP leader LK Advani also Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he is the world’s best event manager. Ramesh said, "An event never lasts that long. Bharat Jodo Yatra will run for 140 days and no event can run for that long."

Reply on Swara Bhaskar’s participation

On BJP’s criticism of Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar’s participation in the yatra, he said that only Bollywood celebrities Not only this, but people from different walks of life like television actors, RSS leaders, ex-servicemen are joining the yatra of their own free will. He said that even yoga guru Baba Ramdev has praised it.

Bharat Jodo Yatra started on September 7 from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. The yatra, led by Rahul, entered Madhya Pradesh on November 23 from Bodarli village in Burhanpur district, known as the Gate of the South, after passing through Maharashtra.

The yatra entered Rajasthan on December 4. First, it will cover a distance of 380 kilometers in Malwa-Nimar region of western Madhya Pradesh in 12 days. In Madhya Pradesh, the yatra has so far passed through Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Indore and Ujjain districts.

Assembly elections are due next year in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. During the visit, Rahul Gandhi visited the famous Lord Mahakal temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country, in Ujjain on Tuesday. Earlier, he had offered prayers at Omkareshwar temple, another Jyotirlinga in Khandwa district.
