Aftab is likely to be taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) on Friday. According to FSL sources, his answers given during the polygraph and narco test will be analyzed and Poonawalla will be told about the answers given by him.

test after signing

A senior official said that before the narco test, Poonawala’s blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature and other general tests including heart beat test were done. He told that as part of the process, a consent form was read out to him with full details of Poonawalla and the narco team probing him. After taking his signature on the form, narco test was done.

This test is done in this condition

Medicines like sodium pentothal, scopolamine and sodium amytal are given in narco test, which takes the person to different stages of effect of anesthesia. In the hypnotic stage, the person is not fully conscious and is more likely to blurt out such information, which he or she usually does not tell while conscious. Investigating agencies use this test when other evidence does not give a clear picture of the case.

not accepted as preliminary evidence in court

The Delhi Police had earlier said that it has sought a narco test on Poonawalla as his answers during questioning were “misleading”. The Supreme Court has ordered that narco test, brain mapping and polygraphy test cannot be done without the consent of the person concerned. Also, the statements given during this investigation are not admissible as preliminary evidence in the court. These are acceptable only in certain circumstances, when the facts and nature of the case find the bench to be in favor of it.
